NH Partners in Education Awards Ceremony

Jen recently got to help accept an award for BAE Systems for one of the program she helps with there, the Women in Technology (WiT) program. The article from BAE Systems is below (last names removed for privacy).

Electronics & Integrated Solutions (E&IS) was recognized for Gold Circle Achievement Awards by two New Hampshire high schools Sept. 24. Pelham and Alvirne High Schools nominated BAE Systems for its Women in Technology (WiT) program.

"As engineering has traditionally been male dominated, WiT was originally conceived as a diversity program to educate female high school students with a technical, science, or math interest, in various engineering disciplines available to them for careers," said E&IS Employee Relations Director Bob. "Our objective is to nurture this interest by providing ongoing internships and mentors right through college, and, upon graduation, offer engineering jobs to the women. We have numerous female engineers who went through the program years ago, remain employed with us, and even serve as mentors to the kids now coming through."

Alvirne High School in Hudson, N.H., has participated in the WiT program since 1995 and has sent 34 students through the program. Pelham High School, in Pelham, N.H., has participated since 1997 and has sent 13 students through the program.

The New Hampshire Gold Circle Achievement Award provides statewide recognition for those community partnerships whose cooperative efforts with their respective schools have created outstanding volunteer partnerships that have positively impacted New Hampshire children.
